We looked at growing wheat seeds and stalks of wheat this week with K-5 FoodPrints classes. We worked on threshing (removing the wheat seeds from the stalks), winnowing (separating the wheat seeds from the other bits of stem and wheat stalk (the chaff)), grinding the wheat into flour, and then baking it into either flatbread or flatbread crackers. We’ve included the flatbread recipe below and the flatbread cracker recipe is in last week’s post. Some classes tasted homemade ranch dip or pico de gallo and we included those recipes as well.
